Volleyball Journey - Part 3

The following night, is much the same she comes prepared with the brace on, and goes through some training with Andrew and Sam, but also does some light court work with the rest of the team. After the training Sam takes another look and then she ices her ankle for 20 mins.    The next night and match night, Alex shows up with the rest of the team. Dressed and ready to go. Andrew pulls her aside to see how she is going. “I’m good, a little nervous but excited to get back on the court.” “Ok well good luck out there.” “thanks Andrew” and Alex smiles.    The match starts and Sam and Andrew and the rest of the team watch on. Its noticeable that Alex is being very sure footed at the start. Making sure she lands good and doesn’t try too many awkward steps sideways. The girls go down in the first set but get off to a thrilling start in the second. Alex is feeling more relaxed and comfortable, making lots of shots and moving around quite freely. Volleyball Journey - Part 2

Monday she shows up at training dressed to train. Sam takes her aside and gets her to remove the shoe and sock and bandage to look at the ankle. He is happy with the progress and decides to tape her ankle up and get her into some light training and see how it feels.    Andrew works nearby as she goes through some simple movements and jogging slowly building up the pace. She works on some change of direction movements and feels happy that her ankle is doing well. After the training, Andrew helps her to remove the tape and takes a quick look at the ankle to make sure it has not become swollen, which it had not.    By Wednesday she is cleared to play by Sam, and he tapes her ankle as a precaution. She starts the match as normal, but she continues being a little cautious at the start with her jumps and landings. As the game progresses, she feels more comfortable and confident in her ankle and she starts to push a bit harder. The girls win the match, and all is well....

Volleyball Journey - Part 1

Alex starts her first year at college, after choosing to take a couple years off to travel around the world. After spending time in many different countries and cities, working part time in pubs or whatever she could get, she is looking forward to getting back into a routine and get the degree she has always wanted.    She got accepted into a college which has a speciality program for volleyball players. She excelled during her junior years of volleyball and was given the opportunity to try out for the team in the first week of the year. All the girls who tried out were very nice to her, welcoming her to the college and we very interested in hearing about her travels. The coaching team was fantastic, they had many years of experience between them and had taken the team to the championships several times. Sam, one of the coaching staff, a relatively young guy, only completing his degree the previous year, was also the team physio. He had one assistant, Andrew who was 2 years in...
